MUSICAL TYPING - PITCH PIPE 2.0
This is a web-based musical typing application which can be used if you don’t have native music software on your computer.
Usage is pretty straightforward, and has an instructions key for further information. It’s simplicity is because it meant as a learning tool for kids, to aid in learning the basics of musical relationships.
It contains 9 different musical “voices”: piano, organ, sax, flute, pan pipes, strings, guitar, steel drums, and double bass, from which to choose.
There are 6 different drum beats to choose from, and there is a mode for chord building.
I like it because of its’ no muss-no fuss interface, and more than meets my pitch pipe needs.

This is the ultimate full featured music creation software which is part of apple’s iLife suite. Unfortunately, it’s only available for macs(windows see below).
With this you can learn to play the guitar or piano.
Record and mix your own songs. Use acoustic or built in software instruments. Edit and arrange your songs.
Share your songs on iTunes, and much more.

When you open the app and start a new project, musical typing is available from the “window” drop-down menu.

Using this app does have somewhat of a learning curve, but as always apple has provided and in-depth help menu.
Garage band Lite is an app patterned after GarageBand for windows xp, vista, and 7.
According to the developer, this application was designed to replicate only the musical typing portion of Garageband, and is still somewhat limited in comparison.
There’s no ability to record, but you can find my solution here.
This application was created using a program called ‘The Games Factory‘ and because of its’ limitations , beware of the rather large(115-632MB) installation size.
Currently, as of Feb 2010 version 1.1 Garage Band Lite has 14 instruments available.
