RECORDING INTERNET RADIO-THE SOFTWARE APPROACH

There are several advantages for using the software player approach to record internet radio. The biggest in my opinion is not having to worry about ambient sound while recording.

Add to this the ability to automatically acquire track info, and record multiple stations concurrently. In other words, instead of recording stations linearly, one can do this in parallel, i.e. record 1 hour of 5 different stations in 1 hour instead of 5.

This software can be freeware/shareware or commercial, with compatibility for mac and pc. Most often it will contain a database of radio stations and/or the ability to upload them by url. There is an extensive amount of software to pick from and a wide range of native features as well.

Your particular needs as well as ease of use will determine which is best, to be used singularly or in combination. By virtue of the fact I have iTunes on my computer(mac mini), I chose the Radio Recorder app 1.07 (v1.07) Copyright 2004 Oleg Kibirev (General Public License), which derives its’ database from Shoutcast and integrates easily with iTunes. The interface is pretty simple and straightforward, and a help page is included. Click on the image, and magnify to read.
